Lilly Library Publications Online

Project Information

The goal of this project is to create accurate electronic transcriptions of Lilly Library publications, including both exhibition catalogues and issues of the Indiana University Bookman.

Exhibition catalogues are published in both numbered and un-numbered series. (See the full list).

The Indiana University Bookman was published irregularly from 1956 through 1988 by the Indiana University Library for the bookmen of Indiana and friends of the University. Edited by Cecil K. Byrd and William R. Cagle, seventeen issues were published. A full contents list of all the issues of the I.U. Bookman is available.

Lilly Library staff select catalogues and Bookman articles for electronic transcription based on patron demand and the importance of the collections described in the text. Most of the publications selected are out-of-print.

Technical Information

Texts are encoded in XML according to the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) Guidelines (P4). The resulting XML files are converted to static XHTML files by use of Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations (XSLT). Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are used to format the XHTML files.

Information about how the texts were transcribed and how the electronic description may differ from the printed text is found under the "More about this publication" link at the head of each text.
